Relationship milestones indicate significant events in a relationship. These moments are often a first, and they should be memorable. As the relationship develops, people experience specific milestones that improve communication and interactions – ideally, and especially if you celebrate them with special travel plans.
The first date, first kiss, first "I love you"
It's 2024, and we know they don't necessarily happen in that order, but they are all important. The first date is the "conception" of a potential relationship.
Making love the first time
The first time people have sex is a highly anticipated milestone. Each one of the previous three can culminate in this. For a truly memorable milestone, they will all precede it.
On that note, how long should you wait before having sex with a new partner? 22% of respondents in a recent survey in the UK found people should wait about a month. Of course, reality and principle don't always line up. Just 17% said sleeping with someone within a week of the first date was optimal, but 24% of people in a relationship thought so.
It's worth going some place special for this moment. The first time you have sex will be more memorable if you're on a trip somewhere.

Meeting friends and family
Eventually, you will meet your partner's friends, and they will meet yours. This milestone won't apply to you if you were in the same circle or met through friends. If not, it's a very important one for both people because it's only natural to want your friends to like your significant other.
When the time comes to meet their family, you'll probably feel anxious. This is a significant event because it means they trust you enough to let those closest to them know you. You might travel to meet relatives and friends. 25% of respondents in the above survey said you should wait three months before meeting each other's family members.

Going to a work event together
Going to a work event with your partner can seem like a watershed moment in numerous ways. Being introduced to their boss and coworkers also introduces you to a crucial aspect of their life. It's even like making a relationship official and definitely marks progress in it.
You could meet their coworkers on a business trip where a plus one is allowed. While that doesn't always qualify as a special trip, it does involve careful planning.

Your first holiday together
24% of people say you should wait six months to go on holiday together. Being together in a novel and exotic setting can be a joyous experience. Holidays are fun but also one of the most stressful times of the year. Instead of spending them with your families every time, you could create a new holiday tradition and have something to look forward to, especially if family dynamics aren't perfect.
Buying a home
If the home is in a new place you'll be moving to, it will obviously be connected to travel plans. On a slightly unrelated note, you probably shouldn't buy a home in a place you're not familiar with. You need an understanding of local customs and norms, and knowing at least some of the neighbours is a good idea. 23% of people don't think you should buy a property with someone you've been with for less than two years.
Getting engaged or married
Statistics in 2024 show that 38% of couples get engaged after dating for less than a year and a half, while a quarter wait five or more years. 21% of people think you should wait two years before getting married.
Tying the knot is by no means mandatory, but when we think of relationship milestones, it's right up there. You can always elope!
