Cheapest way to get from Punta Cana to Punta Cana International Airport

The cheapest way to get from Punta Cana to Punta Cana Airport (airport code: PUJ) is to take 2 of these mini vans, known as a guagua:
This is the cheapest public transport option available. And the cost is a fraction of the other options available.
Shuttles and UBERS from Punta Cana to Punta Cana International Airport are super expensive. The journey is admittedly 20 km but they are milking the tourists for every penny they can.

I checked, just out of curiosity, how much it would be in an UBER:
The ONLY option for real budget travellers is to take two of these guaguas. These are the Dominican Republic version of a colectivo.
From the main drag (Avenida Alemania) which runs through Punta Cana you can get a guagua that runs to Veron. They stop anywhere, so just flag them down and make sure its going to Veron and not just Coco Beach:

The fare on this guagua is just 85 pesos.
The ride is to the main junction in Veron. I was travelling to the airport with my roomie. The ride took 50 minutes.
The next guagua runs from just across the junction, heading to the left, marked as route 106 on GoogleMaps. Sadly, sometimes when using public transport there is no option to grab a photo!

Having a travel buddy means there is someone to grab a photo whilst I pay the driver. They run on Caribbean time here, but they are always in a hurry when the travel blogger needs to grab a photo.

The time taken for this 2nd guagua was 30 minutes. So our total travel time was 1 hr 20. This can vary of course.
And the price for this 2nd guagua was 75 pesos. So the total price from Punta Cana to Punta Cana Airport was just 160 pesos. The US Dollar rate at the time of this blog post was 63 pesos and the Pound rate was 80. Quite a BIG saving on the price of a shuttle or the UBER.
Happy to be leaving the Dominican Republic, on a World2Fly Airbus A350 to Madrid:

These guaguas are only good options for those who are travelling light. There is simply no room for those who are travelling with a suitcase.
