Disqus Comments Removed For a Better User Experience
Posted: March 7, 2025
I removed the Disqus Comment System because of the introduction of ads on the free plan.
I have been running Disqus on my blog since the outset. It worked well.
I could moderate all comments before they went live, disallow comments with links from scammers and spammers, and I could even allow guests to comment without the need to create an account - but I did remove this earlier because of those who have nothing better to do than send stupid messages.
Disqus has always been famous for being slow. The code needed to run the Disqus Comment System contains a lot of heavy script that adds seconds to the page load speed. But I was OK with that. I liked how it worked.
A few months ago, they started running ads on the free version.
With six ads above the comments and six ads below, they made my site look crap, even more so on mobile devices because the ads get stacked on top of each other.
80% of blog traffic is on mobile devices, so, it is essential to ensure your website is optimised for mobile devices.
I just don't like ads on my site as they clutter the page up and distract the reader. So, I took the plunge and deleted my account and all the comment sections on about 600 pages, one by one!

Of course, I could have upgraded to get rid of the ads:
I have almost 1000 blog posts, and in 5 years, only 5 or 6 pages have ever received any comments. It's a shame that they started putting ads on the free version, but the paid versions are super expensive, and for the number of comments I get, no way are those paid plans justifiable.
