My YouTube channel is scraped #2 Follow up

A few days ago, I went bat shit about my YouTube channel being scraped. I ask myself, was I right to go bat shit?

I was thinking of abandoning the whole foray into posting videos.

Some of the messages coming back to me:

"But with what you have going you'll get there. Your consistency, honesty and you have a story to tell. This will prob piss you off, but you're doing something right if they're scraping your work."

"You want people to embed your Youtube videos it ups the views and $$$ and triggers their algos.
I checked their site. They are embedding the original videos, which means you get credit for all the views, additional subscribers, and revenue (if you're a youtube partner). They're essentially giving your channel free promotion. What they did is a good thing.
Yeah, them embedding your videos is actually an indication that you are getting somewhere! They picked you for a reason."

"Others Embedding gives credit and drives views."

"I saw this before. Is it a bad thing? They are allowed to embed videos (you can prevent embedded videos playing in your settings). If someone puts your YT video on their website, surely you'll only benefit from potential views it could generate."

Messages from the other side of the wire:

"Just another one of the big challenges for the little guy to make any money or any influence. One avenue to look at is if it is using any monetization. Go to any ad providers like Adsense and report them." - "Good and when you do, DM some of us with links to the content and we can also report the site through the ads. Enough reports and services like Adsense will ban the site."

My own view:

It was suggested that them embedding my video on their site is good for me. Free exposure. But I have the embed option OFF, so in effect, they stole my stuff. No links. No asking permission. They scraped my site and countless others for their own benefit. Period."
You Tube studio embed element
I am not into the legal side of things but I believe if you post something on FB and such like, the image becomes their property. I guess if I put something on YouTube it becomes theirs too?

Had they asked first and put links to me in, hell, I might have said OK, but they didn't ask and they didn't put in links.

Another friend dug further:

"Hi, Trevor I looked at the website last night of la vie zine. It’s not difficult to see it’s not a regular website with all the usual legal requirements (not to mention no harmony nor logic). With some of the videos, there are images of hyperlinks and other links that were not active. This already causes suspicion about the origin of the videos. Most of the posts on the blog seem to have the same date and it’s the day that the user opens the site. I looked again today and it’s today’s date. There is no contact information, no privacy policy (required in Europe by law with special European adaptations). Themes and topics are all mixed up. Example ‘Food & Drink’ has mostly travel posts, not F&D. It’s a mess and I can’t see why anyone would follow it (except Google to get in their ads in). I leave these observations in your hands. Luego."

So, ladies and gentlemen, La vie zine is just another site that steals your hard work.

Here is where I have the opinion that allows embedding my videos. It is off. But, what's to stop anyone doing as I do? Just add the videos URL to my Weebly YouTube element.

So really the option to turn off the "allow embedding", is a pretty fucking useless function 😝
