Another evac flight leaves without me
A tweet just in:
Are you an EU/Schengen/UK tourist still looking to leave Kenya? A further flight is now planned on 28 May from Mombasa to Amsterdam. Please contact your embassy by 22 May to get a seat on this plane. @NLinKenya #TeamEurope #WeTakeYouHome

And my reply:
Tempting. But the UK gives me no better options than here. When the rest of europe starts opening up, may be its time to leave.

Am not sure where Corona is going. Does anyone? Europe is opening up yet cases are still going up.
We are 6 days into the latest 21 day extension. +ve cases are still on the rise. In fact they are spiking.

So why am I still holding out here?
I still maintain that in the short term, I am safer here, though in the long term, my doubts are increasing. Daily.
There are tensions with Tanzania. They want their truckers to be able to cross freely into Kenya yet the Kenyan authorities are running tests and they are all coming back +ve.
Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa are the hot spots. And they have introduced more restrictions there too. This won't sit well with the locals.
Nairobians are trying to get out of the city and they have set up more substantial road blocks, 10km out of Naivasha.
Lake Naivasha continues to rise. I went to Kihoto to have a look.

Here, I am safe. I still have a certain amount of freedom and I am living cheaply. Being targeted by an aggressive drunk was just an isolated case. The biggest problem is boredom and uncertainty.
The wearing of masks is now enforced when you are out and about. There are, I am told, plainclothes officers, patrolling. I'd say 95% are complying. An increase in last weeks estimate of 70%.
At the supermarket I frequent, I was temperature zapped today. This is a new measure.

What would going to Europe in a weeks time give me?
Europe is opening up, slowly. I am waiting untile countries start accepting 'non-residents' and then I will have a bit more flexibility. I have no home base and no income, hence the DONATE button. I need cheap.
Ukraine is a good option. It's cheap, I like it there, I have friends in Tiraspol which is just nearby. I don't want to get stranded in a country where life is expensive.
And on going to the UK?
This is my least favourite and least viable option. I don't have anywhere to go to. It's impossible to stay with my sisters and equally impossible to stay with my father, who is 'high-risk'. He has just received an email notifying him that the 'stay at home' order is to be extended until June 30.
After a lifetime of being on the road, I have no contacts in the UK. And getting a job now when people have no work?
Just because I am from there, doesn't mean I want to return there. Though legally they have to let me in, which other countries don't have to.
I need to go somewhere that's cheap. End of story. Anywhere west of Poland is out.
So I continue to bide my time.
