How to get the metro from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport to the city centre (Syntagma Square)

My Aegean flight A3683 from Bologna (Italy) arrived at 19:30.

I headed for the Metro. Line 3 serves the Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and heads into the city centre before continuing to Dimotiko Theatro (Piraeus), stopping at the famous Syntagma Square.

The journey time is approximately 40 minutes. Trains run every 30 minutes, 7 days a week from 6:30 am to 11:30 pm. One way tickets cost €9 (€4.50 for children, teenagers, over 65), return tickets cost €16.

A single ticket (valid for all modes for 90 minutes) costs 9 Euros (and a reduced ticket costs 4.50 Euros), a return ticket within 48 hours costs 16 Euros, while a tourist ticket with a return within 3 days (and unlimited travel for 3 days) costs 20 Euros, which wasn't a good buy for me as I needed 5 days travel and I like to walk everywhere when backpacking cites so I just bought a single ticket:

How to get from the City Centre to Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna.

The Marconi Express is an elevated monorail line that links Bologna Centrale Railway Station and Guglielmo Marconi Airport.

My Aegean flight A3683 from Bologna to Athens (Greece) was departing at 16:25. I took a Flixbus from Rimini, departing at 09.00 from Centro Studi, arriving at the Bologna Central Bus Station at 10:55:

The Marconi Express takes just 7 minutes to cover the 5.095 kilometres from the city centre to the airport.

At peak times, there is a departure every 7 minutes, and it operates from 5.40 am to midnight, 365 days a year. It leaves from the Bologna Centrale Station, which is very near the bus terminal, so I had plenty of time for some lunch and a little relaxation.

And lunch in Europe for a budget backpacker is take-out from the Coop Supermarket, eaten in the Parco della Montagnola:

I wanted to be at the airport with 2 hours to spare. I was going carry on. I had my main bag with less than 8 kg and a personal item containing my laptop, which would go under the seat in front. I had until 1:45 pm. So after my lunch, I had a coffee at the 12oz Bologna Stazione Centrale:

Solo Andata one-way tickets cost 12:80 Euros. I paid using Pay&Go Contactless option. It is NOT a cheap option. I probably should have walked, but where's the fun in that?

How to get to Athens Airport from the City Centre by on the X95 Airport Express Bus

My Aegean flight A3904 from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (Greece) to Larnaca was at 13:10. After a leisurely breakfast at the Iconic Hostel, I opted to take the bus back to the airport.

The X95 Airport Express takes about 70 minutes depending on the traffic which is a bit longer than the metro, but is much cheaper at just 5.50 Euros (April 2025).

It departs from Syntagma Square, 3 or 4 times an hour depending on the time of day, and operates 24/7. Here is the X95 schedule:

Aegean Airlines S.A. is the flag carrier of Greece. It was founded in 1995 and began operations in 1999 and, as of 2022, was flying to 91 destinations.

After two days and three nights in Rimini, where I backpacked the seaside town and made a day trip to San Marino, I took a Flixbus from Rimini to Bologna for the first of two flights that would take me to Cyprus.

I flew with World2Fly from Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) to Madrid (Spain).

World2Fly is a passenger airline and uses Adolfo Suarez-Madrid Barajas Airport in Madrid, Spain, as its hub. The airline was established in 2021 and concentrates on flights to long-haul destinations in the Caribbean and flies to Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.

World2Fly has some of the cheapest flights to Europe. Flights out of Punta Cana were much cheaper than the flights out of Santo Domingo.

The flight cost me just 340 USD or £270 and that included meals and 1 piece of hand luggage, 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm, with a maximum weight of 10 Kgs and one personal item, 35 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm, such as a small briefcase, a handbag or camera, and must be placed underneath the front seat.

You are required by law to register on the Electronic Ticket portal for entering and leaving the Dominican Republic.
