Backpacking the Golden Triangle (Southeast Asia)

The Golden Triangle is a tripoint in Southeast Asia where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand meet. GeoHack is a great resource!
I visited the Golden Triangle from the Thai side back in 2014.

I stayed a few days at the Chiang Saen Guest House and I recall that the owner told me to put my things on the bed because the Mekong had a habit of flooding.
I took a tuk-tuk from Chiang Saen to The Golden Triangle, a distance of 8km (I later walked back).
The Golden Triangle is a large mountainous region in northwestern Thailand, northeastern Myanmar and northern Laos, which has long been associated with the opium trade.
It is here that you will find the 'tripoint' of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. It is also the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers.

This is a flashback post when I was bumming around Southeast Asia in 2014. The time here was part of a much longer journey that saw me cross Europe and Russia and, much later, to Central Asia and down through Africa.

Proof that I was here 10 years ago:
Thailand has always been an easy place to travel to. Great food, easy come, easy go, safe, a bit hot sometimes, but essentially, Happy Days.
