How to get from Antigua to Livingston - Guatemala

Antigua to Livingston is done in 3 stages:
​

1. Antigua to Guatemala City
2. Guatemala City to Puerto Barrios
3. Puerto Barrios to Livingston

1. Antigua to Guatemala City

I had an agency in Antigua organise me a shared taxi to pick me up from my hostel at 3:50 am and take me from Antigua to Guatemala City so I could get the 5 am bus.

Guatemala City to Antigua:

I have updated info from my buddy Paul, who has just (2024) travelled from Guatemala City to Antigua using the chicken bus.

The chicken bus stop that most people use is "Buses hacia Occidente" but the area is as dodgy as fuck. His hostel in Guatemala City suggested for him to take an Uber to the "Galerías Primma" for 25 Q:

The chicken bus to Antigua was 20 Q. The tourist bus is 15 USD.

This of course will work in the opposite direction.

2. Guatemala City to Puerto Barrios

I travelled from Guatemala City to Puerto Barrios with the Litegua Bus Company:

I arrived at the Litegua Bus station at 5:05 and managed to get on the delayed 5 am bus.

There was one break:

The bus journey takes 6 hours. Don't forget your sweater, as the AC is on full blast. It's a short walk to the Muelle Municipal.

3. Puerto Barrios to Livingston

The final stage of the journey involves taking a boat from the Muelle Municipal in Puerto Barrios to Livingston:

My first journey was made in 2021 during the Covid Pandemic:

I have made this part twice. The first time, coming from Antigua to Guatemala City, and the second time, coming from Corinto, having crossed from Honduras.

The journey takes 30 minutes.
