Mexico City Airport has 2 Terminals. Terminal 1 and 2.
There is a newer airport located 35km northeast of Mexico City: Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU), also known as Mexico City Felipe Ángeles International Airport or simply Mexico City-AIFA.
Make sure you know which airport you are flying from!

If you are travelling light, the best (and cheapest) way to get to Terminal 1 at Mexico City Airport is to take the Metro for just 5 Pesos to "Terminal Aérea", from where it's a short walk to the terminal.

Of course, riding the Metro can be daunting or maybe you are not too bothered about a few dollars and prefer to take an Uber.
Ubers are a relatively cheap and safe way to get around in Mexico City. At no point should you be using the pink and white taxis!
But the issue with taking an Uber to the airport, is that the authorities keep changing the rules. The airport is Federal property so they are saying that Uber are not allowed to drop off or pick up outside the terminal gates and must use a designated spot, near the metro entrance and late at night it is NOT the best location.
The metro runs operates to the following schedule:
