Ciudad de Mexico - Mexico City - Travel Guide

Nomadic Backpackers Guide to all things Mexico City: Museums, transport, culture, places to go, things to do, getting around, restaurants, bars and cafes.

Mexico City, Ciudad de México, the 5th largest city in the world, behind Tokyo, Delhi, Shanghai and São Paulo. Up until 2016, Mexico City was known as the DF, Distrito Federal, but is now referred to as CDMX.

Mexico City, which is a state in its own right, not to be confused with Estado de Mexico (Mexico State), is the most populous city in North America, with a staggering 20 million people, plus all those who are undocumented and is classified as a Mega City (over 10 million inhabitants).

Mexico City lies at an altitude of 2,240 meters. It's congested as hell, the pollution can be tough (not as bad as China, though), and for me, it is now home.
