You can save money in Cyprus by walking from the Airport to the centre of town (Larnaca).

You can also pick up your rental car at the airport.
Larnaca International Airport (airport code LCA) is just 6km southwest of Larnaca, Cyprus’s 3rd largest city. 6km is walkable, even with my main bag. Hell, I have walked much further than that before. I have walked further than that before breakfast and then some. I like walking. Walking has kept me trim.
Why take a taxi when you can take a bus. Why take a bus when you can walk.
This was my first time in Cyprus. I fitted a lot in. I backpacked Larnaca, Limassol, Nicosia, the Walled City of Famagusta, Varosha and the ancient city of Salamis.

As a young man, I walked 1071 miles, 1700km from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 58 days with just 4 days off at an average of 20 miles daily. The maximum I walked in one day was 32 miles, 50km. It took me 12 hours, all with a 20lb (10kg) backpack.
Walking from Larnaca Airport to the centre was a good way to save myself the bus fare, which, according to the latest source, was 4.80€.
My flight from Athens landed just before 3 pm. I had a room booked. I was in no hurry. The sun was out. On the way, I got to see the Larnaca Salt Lake (the road goes right next to it) with a few pink flamingoes about 300m out.

Google Maps showed it at 5.8km. I was in town, knocking at the door of my hostel after 1 hour and 10 minutes. Just another day at the office!
Just as a footnote, if you arrive in the Republic of Cyprus, you can leave from the unrecognised de facto state of Northern Cyprus, which is controlled by the Turkish. BUT if you arrive in the northern part, at Girne or Ercan International Airport, you cannot leave from Larnaca, or Pathos. You must leave from the Turkish controlled part.
I have walkpacked a few airports. El Aiuin in Western Sahara was an easy one. Nauru Yaren very easy. Some of the other Pacific ones can be done. I did Belfast City George Best too, but I walked to the bar to meet my mates rather than to a hotel, as I was staying with family later. In Saint Lucia I also did it – Castries Airport was 20 minutes from my hostel!!
I probably did others in years gone by. Kuta was always an option. though never did
