My ‘pendings’ were starting to build up. I really needed to take time out. But why not combine a working day with a little exploration and a short hike from La Massana to Escaldes-Engordany.
Andorra
Andorra may be one of Europe’s Microstates, but don’t let that fool you. Plenty to see and do here as a backpacker and low-budget traveller

Sightseeing in Canillo – Andorra
After a successful day backpacking Pas de la Casa, I felt so inspired by Andorra that I went to visit Canillo, 10 km out of town, back up the road towards the French border.
Capital of Andorra – Andorra la Vella
Having backpacked Pas de la Casa, Canillo, Escaldes-Engordany, Ordino and La Massana, all of which truly inspired me, I set out to backpack the Capital of Andorra.
Day Trip to Ordino – Andorra
Ordino is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Andorra. In Winter, Ordino makes a great base for skiing at the Ordino Arcalís ski resort. In summer, there are great hiking trails. Cyclists can test their mettle by cycling up and over the 1980 m Col d’Ordino.
The Best Things to See and Do in Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra
Escaldes-Engordany is formed of two previously separate urban centres. Engordany is the older of the two and is where you will find most of the historical sights. Escaldes is the more modern part, given over to high-street shopping and the biggest spa in Southern Europe, the Caldea Spa.
Review of the Alberg Els Andes Hostel in Escaldes-Engordany – Andorra
The Alberg Els Andes Hostel is the perfect backpacker accommodation for budget travellers visiting and exploring Andorra. I loved it so much that I stayed 10 days there.
