How to get from Rimini to San Marino (and back again) on the Bonelli and Benedettini Shuttle Bus.

There is no train service between Rimini and San Marino.
If you are relying on public transport, Rimini has a railway station, but then you must take the Rimini San Marino bus, which is operated by Gruppo BonelliBus and Benedettini (a collaboration between the companies BONELLI BUS and F.LLI BENEDETTINI).
I actually arrived in Rimini on a Flixbus from Siena and stayed three nights at one of the backpacker hostels.

Travelling from Italy to the Republic of San Marino.

The Republic of San Marino is enclaved within central Italy.
It occupies 61 square kilometres and is the third-smallest state in Europe after the Holy See and the Principality of Monaco.
It is the fifth-smallest country in the world, one of six European microstates, and one of only three countries landlocked by a single country – the other two being Lesotho and Vatican City.
They joined the United Nations as a full member state in 1992.
For me, it became my 113th UN-Listed Member State and my 127th country and territory visited.
It is not a member of the European Union, although it uses the Euro as its currency (despite not legally being part of the Eurozone). Before the introduction of the Euro, the country’s currency was the Sammarinese lira.
I have always liked to do something memorable for my birthday. And what better way (other than to be with my wife back home in Mexico) than to backpack the world’s fifth-smallest independent nation?
I purposely concentrated on San Marino City, la cittá di San Marino, the capital of the Republic of San Marino. Less is, after all, more.
I would have loved to have stayed the night, but budget restraints meant it just wasn’t viable, and the only hostel in San Marino had reviews mentioning bed bugs.
I made a day trip to San Marino, which is easy to do as the journey takes just 1 hour, and the buses start running from 8 am until 6 or 7 pm.
Where is the Rimini to San Marino bus stop located?
The bus stop is not far from the Rimini Railway Station (I had checked it out the evening before) as shown on the map below:

You can get tickets online or buy them directly from the Tabacco E Venere kiosk, which is just up the street, back towards the railway station, cash only (try to pay with small notes), and you can only buy them on the day:

I took the 9.25 am bus:

They put the price of single tickets up to €7 on January 1, 2025, and according to the BonelliBus website, the price is still correct as of 2026.

Travelling from Rimini to San Marino:

Arrival in San Marino is at Parcheggio 2, which is more of a parking lot than a bus station.
The journey took just over 1 hour.

Here are a few photos from San Marino:

San Marino lies at an altitude of 749 m. Above, looking towards the Adriatic Coast.
The military fortress of San Marino. The Second Tower stands on the highest peak, Mount Titano (756 m), and you can easily walk to it from the main part of the city.

Im thinking of flying into rimini and then flying out of bologna. I wonder how hard it would be to get the latter by bus or train. also, what amount of time did you spend on the ground in san marino? how long does it take to see everything and walk around?
I stayed in Rimini for 3 nights. Flixbus to and from Bologna. I was there for about 5 hours.
how many hours You stayed at san marino?
I arrived around 10.30 am. Left at 3 pm.
What a fortress. Amazing view.
I had never heard of San Marino before reading this post.
The Geography Teacher of Travel Blogging is at it again!
Nice to learn something new versus seeing the 3 millionth rehashed post on The Top 10 Things to Do in Rome.
Cheers Ryan. Was looking at Mexico City Museums (my new intent-driven category) and saw a post. POPULAR WITH LOCALS + HIDDEN GEMS and goes on to mention 6 most well known museums in Mexico City. Lol. I am trying to keep it real and not click baity whilst helping my pages move up the rankings.
Have edited quite a few.. Traffic seems to be climbing. Little by little. Twaeking is never ending. And need a week with nothing on. Just spent all day putting 2 shelves up and a cushion as a headboard. Time consuming cos of wonky walls and my obsessive nature, the same one i apply to my blog. No half hearted efforts..
