Ordino is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Andorra. In Winter, Ordino makes a great base for skiing at the Ordino Arcalís ski resort. In summer, there are great hiking trails. Cyclists can test their mettle by cycling up and over the 1980m Col d’Ordino.
I went there as a backpacker in the English sense of the word —a traveller with a backpack to explore this charming mountain village and visit the country’s most important museum.

I made the short journey by bus:

The Museu Casa d’Areny-Plandolit
If you only visit one museum in Andorra, I highly recommend the Museu Casa d’Areny-Plandolit, the house museum of the Areny-Plandolit family, in Ordino.
The House of Areny-Plandolit was built in the 17th century although most of the structures you see today, date from the 19th century.
It is the most important museums in the country. The Areny-Plandolit family were one of the most prominent families in the political and economic history of Andorra between 1600 and 1900. It was turned into a museum in 1986.

There is a superb 25-minute holographic interpretation as told by Don Guillem Areny-Plandolit. I found it extremely informative:

The entrance fee is 7€
You can check the opening times of the Andorra Museums website.
I had a nice lunch at the Vertical Ordino, then walked around a bit. It’s a small place. Here are some photos from Ordino.
The Església de Sant Corneli i Sant Cebrià at the end of the street is pretty neat:

As is the Capella de Can Rossell:

Then I had a quick beer at the Topic Restaurant before taking the bus back to Andorra la Vella:
