The "Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central" / "Sueño de una Tarde Dominical en la Alameda Central" is one of Diego Rivera's most famous works and is the centrepiece of the Diego Rivera Mural Museum in Mexico City.
The 15.6-metre-long mural was painted between 1946 and 1947 and was part of a group of murals by several artists, Miguel Covarrubias, Gabriel Fernandez Ledesma and Roberto Montenegro, commissioned for the Hotel del Prado on Juarez Avenue on the south side of Alameda Central.
Rivera painted a satirical view of society in Mexico City with many prominent figures, even featuring himself, seen below, as a 10-year-old boy, alongside Frida Kahlo (his wife between 1929 and 1939 and whom he remarried in 1940) and La Catrina (the Skeleton), a figure created by the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada:

A few days after the 1985 earthquake, which destroyed much of the city, it was found that the Sueño de una Tarde Dominical en la Alameda Central mural had survived pretty much intact.
In 1988, the Diego Rivera Mural Museum opened its doors to the public, taking on the responsibility of both the conservation and exhibition of the Diego Rivera Mural:
