Mexico City has around 190 archaeological sites. Some of the more well-known ones include: Chichén Itzá (Yucatán), Palenque (Chiapas), Teotihuacán (Estado de México), Templo Mayor (CDMX) and Monte Albán (Oaxaca), all of which I have visited.
Lesser-visited archaeological sites in Mexico, but equally important, include: Cuicuilco (CDMX), Tenayuca (Estado de México), Bonampak (Chiapas) and Acanceh (Yucatán).

Cuicuilco was one of the most ancient and prosperous cities in the Valley of Mexico. It was destroyed following the eruption of the Xitle volcano in the third century AD.
I first visited the Cuicuilco Archaeological Site back in 2022. I returned for a second visit in August 2026.

The Mitla Archaeological Site is the second most important archaeological site in Oaxaca after Monte Albán, so it definitely should not be missed.
