How to get from Las Américas International Airport to the Colonial Center of Santo Domingo on a guagua.
The Las Américas International Airport is 30 km east of Santo Domingo.
My Arajet flight from Mexico City landed at 5.40. After immigration, I killed time drinking coffee. Word was that minivans to Santo Domingo leave from departures, 1 level up.
I asked a young lady working the porter's desk. The ride to town was 150 pesos. I waited a while and then left.
The cheapest way to get from SDQ airport to the centre of Santo Domingo is to take a guagua but you need to get to the highway, 3 kilometres away:

The guagua is synonymous to the Dominican Republic. It is a minivan, a colectivo and they are a great and cheap way to get around when there are no long distance buses.
This is a traveller/backpacker only option. For those with suitcases, this option is not for you.
The walk took me 30 minutes.
And you have to be good with Google Maps.

I jumped in. The conductor took the money. Just 75 pesos (1 USD = 62 DOM pesos). Booking was charging US$123.92 for a transfer. Incredible.
The ride into town took an hour. I had no idea what the route was, so I followed our progress on Google Maps and just rode until everyone got out. And that was at the Altar de la Patria, which was pretty good for me.
