Quirky Olsztyn is one of Poland’s up and coming gems – a city steeped in history, yet thriving in your contemporary 2025 world. Olsztyn is the capital city of the Warmia-Mazury region, the gateway to the lake district and the steadfast hub from where castles meet nature and where residential meets wildlife. Slip inside the eye of Olsztyn’s mind and see what you might find.

From the Old Town “city” streets and walls, Napoleon has been and gone, only his plaque remains. So have the Crusaders, the Knights, the Germans, the Prussians and the Solidarność days. Indeed this city once dubbed (called) Allenstein (how inappropriately Germanic) has found its place now, inspired largely by Kopernik. Kopernik? Nicolas Copernicus, whose statue sits afront a bridge, a castle and an old town square where water shoots from a simple fountain, by a library in the morning mist.

From this old town square, on foot, you are 4 minutes from a castle, 5 minutes from a river, 7 minutes from a train station (Olsztyn Zachodni), 10 minutes from a lake, and just metres from some superb cafes, bars and restaurants.

As a digital nomad, online worker, travel blogger, entrepreneur and laptop loyal student, here are the best 6 cafes for you.

Cafes in Olsztyn for Digital Nomads.

Remember the requirements for a good digital nomad cafe? Sockets that work to plug in and charge your laptops, tablets and phones. Working WiFi, fast is recommended and in 2025 – expected as a given standard – just make sure you use a VPN. Decent coffee with a range to suit all of us. Snacks that are easy and require not much effort to order or eat. Staff that smile. A password our devices remember. A clean toilet. We don’t ask for much, and so Olsztyn obliges… but it is worth considering these 6 essential tips for travel bloggers and digital nomads.

1. Cafe Szczęscie

A nice stone’s throw from the actual Old Town, is the arty Cafe Szczęscie. Personalised coffees, art-adorned walls, themed events and fresh baked treats allow this cafe to sneak into the Olsztyn repertoire. Grab a seasonal coffee, such as the Halloween Pumpkin option, plug in your laptop by a quiet wall and work away.

Selling Points: Cosy, small café with a nice atmosphere; good local/local-flavour coffee; tasty cakes and sweets; a place to relax, friendly service.

2. Coffee Station

As well as multiple sockets, an easy menu and fast Wi-Fi, Coffee Station adds in a loyalty card. Milk it and use it. Buy 9, the 10th is free. As a bonus, they serve alcohol. Try a nice Irish coffee of an afternoon once your hard work is done and dusted. Splendid!

Selling Points: Central location (Old Town), serves breakfast & lunch options, licensed for alcohol, good coffee; an ambient place good for casual meetings or relaxing.

3. White Bear Coffee

I guess this one might be more well-known due to the location on the main thoroughfare, the Staromiejska, which itself translates into English as Old City Street. White Bear Coffee is the first cafe you’ll see on the left after entering Olsztyn old town through the popular High Gate (Wysoka Brama).

Selling Point: Charming café; good pastries; well-crafted coffee; nice for dessert + coffee; location bang central, in a pretty part of the city.

4. Pijalnia Czekolady E.Wedel

Wedel is a long standing Polish institution! Modern extremists will claim it was bought out by the South Koreans, but hey that only happens to businesses that are top level. It’s the best chocolate in Poland, the most well-known, and you can also tour their factory in Warszawa. Expect an exquisite menu with chocolate featuring strongly, just get in early to nab a seat by a socket to get your online work started. This is your sweet tooth option in a cosy building by the edge of Olsztyn old town.

In fact, I backpacked the Wedel Cafe in Warszawa (photos below) in 2024 with Jonny Blair of Don’t Stop Living on an adventure that included visiting the longest building in Warszawa, the old wooden houses of Bemowo, Freddie Mercury Street, and the Street of Globes.

Selling Point: Chocolate-themed café; well-known brand; wide variety of chocolates, desserts, hot chocolate, sweets; good for families; atmospheric and sweet treats.

5. Kawiarnia SiSi

I’d say this is the option for those who like to be a digital nomad in the main square. You have Olsztyn Old Town Square out the front, the pierogi house next door and even a Scottish Whiskey bar on the other side (The Highlander). Get cosy in SiSi and of course, get the WiFi password.

Selling Point: Pleasant ambience: well-decorated interior, cosy atmosphere, located in Old Town (Stare Miasto), ideal for relaxing and meeting friends.

6. Bless Coffee Roasters

I’m including this one as the coffee is superb, even though Bless Coffee Roasters is not renowned for being a digital nomad hangout – it has WiFi though. A short walk away from the Old Town will see you arrive in Bless Coffee Roasters. This is the place to go for craft coffee in a spacious room. Less seats than the others, so get in fast. Make sure to ask the barista for a recommendation. Whether you’re backpacking Ethiopia or Guatemala in Poland coffee stakes, the choice should suffice your taste. Also, as it’s small, there are not as many sockets to charge but this is the one to head to if you are a coffee geek more than a laptop freak.
