6 Tips for Blogging from Cafes
Posted: August 21, 2024
I am a perpetual traveller. I move around a lot. Continuously you might say. The road is my home, and cafes such as McDonald's, Caffe Nero, Costa Coffee and Pret, with their free Wi-Fi, become makeshift offices.
Blogging takes a lot of time and if you haven't run a blog, you have no idea how much it takes to get the posts done and the endless tweaks needed to keep it running.
I can't stay in the hostel the whole day. Sometimes a change of scenery is needed. Thankfully, you are never too far from one of the aforementioned cafes.
Buy yourself a tea or coffee, make yourself comfortable and milk it (pun intended), make it last whilst you blog the afternoon away, but you might want to take these awesome tips into account before, during and after your blogging stint.

1. Get yourself a VPN
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a cybersecurity tool that every travel blogger needs to have, even more so when using unsecured networks..
Functions of the VPN include:
Protecting your browsing history
Hiding your streaming location
Blocking ads, trackers, and malware
So make sure you get one. There are many on the market. I use Nord VPN. It's not cheap but it's totally worth it for security and peace of mind.

2. Find a table away from the door
Sadly things have gotten worse. Don't make it easy for lowlifes who won't hesitate to make a grab for your lap top and be gone within seconds.
3. Find a table near a power socket
Blogging takes longer than most realise and time flies once the words start to flow and so does the battery.
Sometimes I write blog drafts on sheets of paper or napkins:

4. Don't get distracted
Even if you have taken a table away from the door, don't get distracted. I have taken to adopt this little hack, and it has become second nature:
I have a carabiner on my backpack and it is clipped to my jeans belt loop.

5 Don't leave your stuff unattended when you need a comfort break
This is the world we live in.
6. Check you have everything with you before leaving
In particular, if you have used the power socket, make sure you don't leave the adapter in the socket. I left my UK-to-European adapter in the wall of a hotel in Madagascar once. It was a costly mission to find a new one.
