Al Barid Bank ATM in Morocco No Longer Has Free Withdrawals

Al Barid now has an out-of-network withdrawal fee. A few people have messaged me. 35 MAD. This post will eventually be removed.

The Al Barid ATM is the only bank in Morocco that offers free cash withdrawals.

So, use Google Maps and search for: “Al Barid ATM near me”. It couldn’t be simpler.

There are Al Barid ATMs at the Marrakesh Menara Airport, the Agadir Airport and the Casablanca Airport.

This was a stroke of genius. I had taken the ferry from Algeciras to Tanger Med. I needed local money. I had 10€ to cash, but both banks at the Tanger Med Ferry Terminal in Morocco were closed, and the kiosk, which supposedly changed money, was not staffed either.

A fellow traveller on the ferry was also in the same predicament. We had chatted on the boat. He was young, and the subject of money came up. He had no Euros, no Dollars. Just one bank card.

It had been 12 years since I was last in Morocco. It could have gone cashless, but I doubted it. But everywhere has ATMs now. The task of the traveller is now to find which ATMs have free withdrawals; the fees can surely mount up over time.

He had some mates meeting him, and they informed us that the ONLY free ATM in Morocco was the Al Barid Bank, and there before us was an Al Barid Bank ATM.

Don’t you just love it when the ATM starts counting money?

​And no. Morocco hasn’t gone cashless. Cash is very much still king here, and if you are a fan of taking hard currency, it’s very easy to change Euros in Morocco.
