I had my last alcoholic beer back in Malta on June 28th 2024, at The Pub in Valletta.

We had been touring Fort Angelo and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. It had been a scorcher of a day, and after, we sought a little light refreshment at The Pub in Valletta.
The Pub is where, back in 1999, Oliver Reed was challenging a group of sailors to a drinking match whilst taking a break from filming Gladiator.
After some time, he said to those around him, ‘I don’t feel very well’, he laid down on the floor and died.
Me Ryan and I, drank a pint of whatever. Due to the heat, 35 degrees C or so, the beer went very quickly to our heads.
We both decided that we would stop drinking beer.
Whilst backpacking in Warsaw with my buddy Jonny Blair, I drank a few 0% beers, and later, in London, I tried a few British 0% beers. It didn’t enjoy them at all.
Alcohol-free drinks are NOT 100% alcohol-free. They typically contain 0.01% alcohol. And they contain more sugar than regular beers.
Just like sugar-free drinks like Diet Cola and Cola Zero, the junk they add to keep the taste is worse than the normal version.
Alcohol’s Effects on the Body
I’m not about to get all preachy here. Do what the hell you want. I am just stating the facts.
Drinking too much can take a serious toll on your health. Alcohol can affect your:
- Brain
- Heart
- Liver
- Pancreas
- Cancer
- Immune system
And for me personally, following my Prostate Surgery, I am informed by my doctor that alcohol contributes to the rate at which the prostate grows. Having spent a very uncomfortable last 3 weeks with 1 night in hospital, I am extremely keen not to have to go through this ordeal again.
And if that means giving up beer, then so be it.
And not to mention all the other benefits: losing weight, losing that beer belly, losing that bloated feeling, more energy, better sleep. The list is endless.
