The Santiago Monorail in Santiago de los Caballeros is one of many public transport projects by FITRAM – Trust for the Development of the Dominican Republic’s Mass Transportation System.

Once the project is finished, it will link Cienfuegos in the northwest of the city to Pekin in the southeast. With 14 stations covering, a distance of 13.2 km, the Monorriel de Santiago will offer a 30% reduction in transportation costs and a 20-minute decrease in travel time, as well as ease the chronic traffic congestion in the city.
Construction work began on March 30, 2022.
There will be 13 trains of 4 carriages with a total capacity of 580 passengers. Trains will run every 90 seconds during peak times, allowing up to 40,000 passengers to be transported per hour, travelling up to speeds of 80 kph.
The driverless Cityflo 650 trains will be provided by Alstom Canada.
FITRAM’s executive director, Jhael Isa, announced that the construction of the Santiago Monorail is set to be completed by December 30, 2025
