Zipolite has become our Christmas getaway. For the past 4 years, we have taken a Volaris flight from Mexico City Airport to Huatulco Airport, and then, using a variety of transport options, we continue to Zipolite.
Zipolite is where Miss CDMX and I met back in 2020. Miss CDMX was on her annual vacation; I was holed up in this seaside town, escaping COVID-19 lockdowns.
We know all the places here to get a good feed.

5 Best Cafés for Breakfast in Zipolite
1. Le Castelet
The Cafeteria Le Castelet is one of the long-established cafés in Zipolite. Everything on the menu is superbly cooked with a great choice of fresh juices, possibly the best in town. Make sure you ask for extra ginger! The owner is from Italy and, with his Mexican wife, they run a tight ship. It’s one of the best-organised places in town and is number one on my list for best cafes in Zipolite.

2. Kellyko
They have moved for the 2024/2025 season to bigger premises, one street in. I have tried nearly everything on the menu here. The set breakfast menus are a great deal. Eggs, Mexican style, with fresh juice and café de Olla, is my favourite option and is now becoming one of the best places for breakfast in Zipolite.
3. Orale Café
In a delightful wooded setting, the Orale Cafe is one of the best breakfast spots in Zipolite. The staff at the Orale are attentive, and service is fast. My favourite is the Sweet and Salty Breakfast Special with scrambled eggs, French toast, potatoes, bacon and maple syrup. The fresh fruit served with yoghurt and granola is the biggest you’ll find in Zipolite. It is popular with families. It’s a 10-minute walk from the main drag.
4. Espíritu Verde de Zipolite
The Espíritu Verde de Zipolite have some great choices on its breakfast menu. The omelette with spinach is my favourite, and of course, the green juice. They moved locations for 2024/2025, literally across the street. They have a super modern kitchen too!
5.Trigo / Tutifruti
For our 5th choice, head to Trigo, the small bakery on Main Street, order a spinach quiche and a cinnamon roll and take them across the street to Tutifruiti and order an Americano or a cappuccino; they even have lactose-free milk, quite the novelty here in Zipolite. Sit at the outdoor breakfast bar and people-watch. They serve, for me, because it’s a very personal thing, the best coffee in Zipolite.
Now you are free to go to the beach and strip off, yes, get your kit off. The beach at Zipolite is clothing-optional.
