Crossing the Victoria Falls Bridge from Zambia to Zimbabwe

After Backpacking Victoria Falls, I went and “fake-backpacked” the Zambia-Zimbabwe Border Crossing.

From the entrance to Victoria Falls, it’s a short walk to Zambian Immigration, where you show your passport and say that you are just going to the middle of the bridge.

They give you a slip of paper with a single stamp on it:

Then it’s about a 500m walk to the Victoria Falls Bridge that separates Zambia and Zimbabwe.

I bought a 20 Billion Zimbabwe Dollar note for my collection:

When I was there, they were using USD, then they switched again to the ‘New Zimbabwe Dollar’ but it suffered to become a worthless currency again with lots of zeros.

They are now back to using USD.

So I walk halfway across the bridge. Get my obligatory photos of my fake border crossing:

And then I retrace my steps. I re-enter Zambia:

There are minivans to whisk you back to Livingstone. They take 18 passengers and go when full. The ride takes 20 minutes and costs 10Kw

Not much room so if you are travelling with a lot of luggage, private shared cars cost 20 Kw, so I am told.

The ‘bus station’ is marked in Google Maps:
