Countries and Territories Visited According to Nomadic Backpacker:
Updated: May 2025
This is my own list of the countries and territories I have visited as a backpacker.
Here are some photos of me backpacking countries that many don't recognise. They exist, all right. I went there.
We Are Our Mountains - Tatik-Papik in Stepanakert in the former Nagorno-Karabakh / Republic of Artsakh, which doesn't officially exist any more:

Nomadic Backpacker in Tiraspol, Transnistria, the country that many say does not exist:
Backpacking Gibraltar:
This is where the old sign used to be, maybe?
Imagine the text: "Welcome to the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia. Best-kept Village in Cyprus in 1997".
I backpacked both Akrotiri and Dhekelia during my stay in Cyprus:

Republic of Iraq - Kurdistan Region:
Among travellers, it's always a much-talked-about topic: How many countries have you been to?
But there is added confusion. How many countries, and according to whom? I have already talked about the various lists: The UN Member States list, The Travelers Century Club list, and the FCO list. What about making your own list?
And there is also the question of how long one should stay in the country. I do not think that stepping foot on the runway on a quick pit stop, en route to somewhere else, qualifies as having visited somewhere.
For me, I need to accomplish something, to do something significant. To order a coffee or beer, visit a museum, stay a night, or kiss someone.
