Review of the International Andaina Hostel in Oaxaca, Mexico, based on my stay in January 2021

I stayed here in December for 3 nights before I went to Zipolite and am now back again for an unknown length of time.

Why is the Andaina the best place for long term travellers and anyone else on a low budget, to stay in Oaxaca?

During the Coronavirus pandemic, dorm rooms are no longer the way to go. I have stayed healthy all this time and I am keen to continue this trend.

And as a long term traveller, now of no fixed abode and no regular income, I need to be selective in where I stay.

The Andaina has all the facilities any good hostel should have yet here they offer single rooms at dorm room prices, even lower when you want to stay for a week or more!

Using my Booking dot com genius discount, the cheapest option is 160MXN per night. Walk-in rate is 190MXN. @January 2021, 1US$=20MXN(Peso).

The weekly rate, paid in person, is 854MXN. That's 122MXN a night. 6US$ a night.

If you don't mind commitment, the monthly rate is 3000MXN. Yup, just 5US$ a night.

It is 2021 and amazingly, one can still sleep for such a (low) cost.

So what does one get for 6US$ a night (yes I paid by the week)?

It's a great place to set up shop for a while. The pandemic has played havoc with our plans and the new modus operandi is travelling slow.

The Andaina is in a great location too.
Location of the Andaina Hostel:

Address: Calle de J. P. García 308, Zona Lunes Feb 09, Centro, 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez, Oax., Mexico

The International Andaina Hostel is on the corner of Garcia and Las Casas.

On Las Casas is an ADO bus ticket office:

A supermarket:

A rotisserie:

One of the entrances to the Mercado Benito Juárez:

And a block away from the Mercado 20 de Noviembre (a massive food market where I get my main meal of the day - breakfast):

It is a few blocks away from the Zócalo Oaxaca (main square):
Catedral Metropolitana
And the start of Calle Macedonio Alcalá pedestrian street, with the Templo de Santo Domingo:

It's 3 blocks from the shuttle bus to Monte Albán:

And a 15 minute walk to the 2 bus stations for Zipolite/Mazunte (Eclipse70 or Lineas Unidas). Click the image below for my post on transport to Zipolite:

This is not a sponsored post! For those who need fast and reliable internet, WiFi in Oaxaca is not the most stable. 2GB of data for 1 month is available at Movistar. And the room that I stayed in on "El Patio level 3" is much quieter than those on level 1 and 2 as they open to Calle Garcia which is on a bus route.
