Where I've Been: World Travel Page
Last updated: June 2024
How many countries are there? What is a country? What is just a territory? What is a principality? What is sovereignty? What are the differences?
Who gives a fuck!
The UN has 193 Member States which many falsely refer to as countries. (The United Kingdom is not a Country. It is made up of 4 separate countries that collectively are 1 Member State of the United Nations).
The Travelers' Century Club lists 330 Countries and Territories.
The British Foreign Office states that there are 226 Countries and Territories.
Jonny Blair lists 627 Significant Regions, This is a serious list. He even 'Country and Territory' fies his own blog, Don't Stop Living. Fuck, in the pandemic, he even backpacked his own flat.

UN Member States Visited:
The UN has 193 Member States and I have been to, visited, backpacked, slept in and spent at least 24 hours in, 110 of them.
I am not #Chasing193, #Chasing195 or #Chasing197.
Why not?
I do not accept the fact that Taiwan, Kosovo, and Hong Kong are not accepted, not given full membership, even if between them, they issue their own passports, and have their own currencies (Kosovo uses the Euro).
I do not accept that Israel is accepted and that Palestine is not.
I do not recognise, and will never recognise the Holy See/The Vatican. For me, it wouldn't even get partial recognition.
Here are the UN Member States that I have visited.

Regions Visited According to NomadMania
NomadMania has an incredible list which details 1301 different regions. I have clocked up 404 of them.
And the lists available go beyond just the regions visited. You can check off border crossings, airports, road trips, UNESCO sites but it's a massive time suck going through all of it AND I still think that they could go even deeper. In the UK for example, they could detain counties visited instead of regions like The North West, The South East, East Midlands.

Countries and Territories Visited According to Nomadic Backpacker:
This is my list of countries and territories beyond the 193 list.
The criteria being, if they issue their own passports, or have their own money, car licence plates, entry rules and I needed a special document or had to register then, then it gets included.
And gone is the need to have spent 24 hours there to be included. As long as I did or saw some significant, be it taking some photos, or drinking a coffee or beer then it counts.
I will expand this page in due course.
- Hong Kong
- Taiwan
- Kosovo
- Palestine
- Western Sahara
- Nagorno Karabakh
- Transnistria
- Gibraltar
- Abkhazia
- England
- Scotland
- Wales

Countries and Territories Visited According to The Travelers' Century Club
The Travelers' Century Club as of January 2022, recognise, state, list, declare that there are 330 Countries and Territories. And to become a member of this club, you must have stepped foot in at least 100 of them.
And according to their list I have been to 140 of them.

Countries and Territories Visited According to The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office
The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as of November 2023 lists 226 different Countries and Territories.
I like it because they list Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Kosovo and Western Sahara separately. They also include The Occupied Palestinian Territories, which pleases me.
But if they can include Western Sahara and San Marino, why don't they include Transnistria or Nagorno Karabakh?
Of the 226 Countries and Territories I have been to, visited, backpacked, slept in and spent at least 24 hours in, 115, 116 if I include Palestine where I spent about 6 hours.
Backpacking in Kosovo:

TimeLine:
2024 - 2024 began as 2022 and 2023 did, with Miss CDMX and her family in Ciudad de México.
I stayed there until April, then it was back to the UK. London and Glasgow and then to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Italy, London, Barcelona, Andorra, Valencia, Madrid, Malaga, Gibraltar, Tangiers, Chefchaouen, Algeciras, Cadiz, Seville
2023 - 2023 started pretty quietly despite lots of drama and uncertainty of the future of Long-Term Travel caused by banks, the death of my father, immigration rules in Mexico. But managed to rescue things and backpacked England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Wales and then things went extreme. I returned to Africa, checking off Madagascar, revisiting Naivasha, where I spent my lockdown, then Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia where I walked with Rhinos and then my first Big Game Safari at Chobe National Park in Botswana. Then it was back to Mexico.
2022 - Starting the year in Mexico City and in January, flight to Country 100, El Salvador. San Salvador Suchitoto, Santa Ana, Lago de Coatepeque. Returned to England. Then Back to Mexico!! Then back to El Salvador and into Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and then heading north again, overland, inc Honduras and Belize. Saw Christmas in Zipolite with Miss CDMX
2021 - The year continues from Zipolite in Mexico and on to Oaxaca and an extended stay in Mexico City and San Cristobal. Crossed to Guatemala. And in early August, returned to Mexico. Day trips in and around Mexico City, ending the year in Ziploite
2020 - The year starts with a bang. London to Paris to Marseille and onto Tunis, Senegal, Mali and Cote d'Ivoire. Lockdown in Kenya. Escaped to Serbia then to Kosovo, Albania ended up in isolation for 14 days in North Macedonia and then went to Turkey. And onto Mexico. Ended the year on a beach in central Mexico.
2019 - Working as much as I can in the UK. A quiet year on the travel front. Work aside, pretty much a recluse. But squeezed in a trip to Lisbon, Portugal and Moldova/Transnistria + Albania, Montenegro, Croatia but ended the year by quitting my job thus preparing the way to be back on the road.
