My 3 Go-To Juices In Mexico City
For the long term traveller, forever on the road, never staying more than 3 or 4 days in one place, staying healthy is of utmost importance.
Skipping meals on a 2-week vacation is OK but if the road is your home, this will have long term side-effects. Your health will be compromised.
I no longer travel hard and fast; the Covid-19 Pandemic forced me to slow down because I would have quickly run out of (open) places to go to and it taught me the joys of travelling slow but eating healthily is still the best thing you can do, however you travel.
No one wants to be laid up with some ailment, be it man flu or worse, Covid, even if we are all acting like it's over, whether on a 2-week vacation or a much longer stint.

I regularly ingest raw garlic, raw onion, diluted cider vinegar and homemade ginger tea. These 4 are all-natural antibiotics. I take also take Complex B (just 1 capsule of the recommended 2 per day).
5 or 6 days a week, me and Miss CDMX are cooking home-cooked meals The most unhealthy meal we have is a cheese-only pizza from Little Caesars.
I supplement this healthy diet with freshly made juices, mostly taken at breakfast time, 3 times a week.
Tip on buying juices from street stalls: Only buy them when they are made from scratch in front of you. The longer the juices are 'sitting there', they are losing their nutritional content and in the heat, they tend to ferment very quickly. These stalls are obviously cash only so head to the Inbursa or Bancoppel bank first which have the Lowest ATM Fees in Mexico.
With #localknowledge, this is the cheapest juice stall in Roma Norte. It's on the corner of Calle Dr Velasco and Avenida Cuauhtémoc near the Jardín Pushkin MetroBus
The good thing about getting juices in Mexico is that they don't add sugar by default. In February when I was in El Salvador, I clarified that the juice would be 'sin azúcar' and I was given the REALLY? look. They make the juices in bulk, add sugar and keep them in the fridge. For the crazy traveller, they had to make me a fresh one.

Here are my 3 Go-To Juices In Mexico City:
1. Jugo Antigripal:
Give yourself a massive Vitamin C boost, whether you are feeling run down or not. Commonly made of pineapple, guava, lemon, honey and orange but have had with strawberries too, when in season. This is the great plus of being in the tropics, lush, vitamin-packed fruit is always available. If you are from Northern Europe, like I am, where almost all fruits, bar apples and berries are imported you will begin to appreciate the awesome variety of fruits available.
Guava contains more Vitamin C than oranges and packs in those antioxidants!

2. Jugo Verde:
The ingredients can vary but commonly the jugo verde is made with nopal and celery with a base of orange or pineapple juice.
We all are aware of the benefits of dark, leafy green vegetables but the water-soluble vitamins (B, and C) contained in vegetables such as spinach are lost to some degree when cooked, which is why you should be consuming your green vegetables raw!
I am a firm believer that, when you juice green vegetables and consume them as quickly as you can, you are maximising the nutritional content available and getting the vitamins directly into your bloodstream.
For those who don't know, nopal, known in English as prickly pear comes from the cactus and has more health benefits than you can shake a stick at.
A litre costs now 45 Pesos. Other stalls are charging 35 for a small.

3. Jugo de Naranja:
Pure and simple. 100% orange, 100% Vitamin C. A 'chico' costs just 20 Pesos and we commonly take our own 1-litre bottle along and get an awesome juice for just 35 Pesos.
