Kicking back at the end of the day
June 14 2021
The reward at the end of another day Backpacking Quetzaltenango is kicking back with a 5 Quetzales Brahva beer.
For months I have been bashing away on my tablet, yes I blog from a Samsung 10.4 tablet. And now I am finally beginning to see the fruits of my labour.
Over the Christmas and New Year period, I overhauled my website from the hammock in Zipolite getting the 250+ pages looking the same.
In Oaxaca, I wrangled every day with shitty Wi-Fi and didn't get an awful lot done.
Then in Mexico City, I was grateful to have fast and stable Wi-Fi and a laptop again. I was reminded of how painfully slow blogging on a tablet was.
I made small adjustments to the layout and had to apply these tweaks to the 250+ pages. Monday to Friday I was putting in 10 hour days. This is the reality that many bloggers fail to disclose. They make out it's easy.
But I got the layout as I wanted.
I am adding a RELATED POSTS section to new posts to encourage readers to stay on my blog. I am told by people in the know that this is more fruitful than the 'previous post' and 'next post' option.
Coming up with content isn't always easy. But the words are starting to flow much better. Coffees keep the blog posts coming.
I write my drafts on Gmail. I sit in McD's with a 12oz coffee and write offline. I'm out walking around, I find a place to sit and write some more. Short sentences. Later I sort them into something more readable.
Social Media has helped me no end in getting engagement. Twitter is my Go-To platform but is learning to make use of FB, in particular FB groups. This is working particularly well.
Traffic is slowly increasing. Nomadic Backpacker was stuck in the slow lane but now it seems I am at least able to overtake a little more often.
And the spurt of energy has been the combination of increased content, improved writing and finding social media outlets that work better.
I am creating a following where people seem genuinely interested in what I am up to and happy to see me reach my years end target of 100 user hits in a day, 7 months early.
Now I must set new goals.
