The Prasat Banteay Chhmar Temple Complex - Cambodia

Reposted: March 28 2021

Exploring Cambodia away from the crowds of Angkor Wat I ended up in Banteay Chhmar. Check out the Bayon-style faced towers:
Prasat Banteay Chhmar - Cambodia
Prasat Banteay Chhmar and its nine satellite temples form one of the great temple complexes from the Angkorian era. The temple was constructed by King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century. The temple complex is one of the largest from the Angkorian era and is one of only two sites outside of the Bayon Temple @Angkor bearing the enigmatic Bayon-style face towers.

I had taken a shared car from Along Veng to Samroang and a moto-taxi to Banteay Chhmar, on roads running parallel to the Thai border. Little in the way of traffic, cool early morning air as I searched out Off the Beaten Track, Cambodia.

I stayed in a Community Based Tourism (CBT) homestay project with a cool family for a couple of nights. I ate at the market. The usual fare, rice with a mixture of vegetables and chewy meat, followed by a couple of beers at a bar, which was little more than a table and chairs with a coolie bin with ice and cans of Angkor on the side of the road.
