Types of Blog Posts on Nomadic Backpacker
Posted: April 6 2024
There are 2 types of blog posts on the Nomadic Backpacker travel blog:
- Posts that are written for Google
- Posts that are written for my audience
1. Posts that are written for Google:
If written well, these types of posts can do very well but there are lots of factors which can and do restrict how well the post performs.
My Mexico ATM post which details Mexico ATM Fees does particularly well for 2 reasons.
1. I SEOd the fuck out of it
2. There are thousands of gringos in Mexico looking to save a few bucks here and there. A post detailing ATM fees in Zambia does less well because there are far fewer people searching for free ATMs in Zambia.
Other posts with very HELPFUL CONTENT fail to do well because there is too much competition.
My Thailand ATM post was doing great but suddenly out of nowhere there were 2 or 3 other very well-written and more detailed posts and my traffic dropped so has been axed.
And for some search queries, I am now outranked by Trip Advisor, Reddit, Wise and Revolut.
I can't compete.
I have a great post from Oxford about top things to do and see there. But there are so many other posts out there that outrank me and I am not talented enough to outwrite them.
Most of my posts about places receive little to no traffic.
I just can't SEO them.

So the second type of posts you'll find on this blog are those directed at my growing fanbase. These types of posts do not give me much traffic but they prove I am human.
Posts that give a personalised side to my writing.
A friend on Facebook, posted this:
"I need to give a plug to Trevor Warman.
He has been a budget backpacker for over 30 years and keeps it real as a “traveler” to over 100 countries (not a tourist). Off the beaten paths mixed in with traditional attractions, he has a sense of humor with a grounded perspective on seeing the world with a clear lens of what life is all about. I enjoy and learn by reading his posts and by viewing the videos of his chronicles.
Trevor is the best traveling blogger out there by far! He is aligned with my philosophy of what traveling should encompass.
Keep it going my friend and I envy your endeavours!
Here is a link to his webpage that also contains links to his other media vehicles he uses to spread his wealth of information and just plain good reads…"
And he later wrote me:
"I was at a hostel in Rif, Iceland, called "The Freezer". The discussion of our favorite travel bloggers came up. You are know in the land of the Vikings. The owner knows of you".
I am getting known around the world. This is fantastic news and fills me with happiness. It gives me hope to keep going despite the drop in traffic since Google started updating the algorithm again.
A lot of the spam backlinks have gone but I am being out ranked by old and now very irrelevant forum content that still rank. My posts have dropped but at least I am still alive. Many have crashed completely.
I just need to up my game. I need to spread the word across the world 20-fold.
I am planning a lot and trying to increase my social media engagement so I don't need to rely on Google.
¡Stay Tuned!
