Earthquake Alarm Sounds Out Across Mexico City

Posted: March 19, 2021

Alarm sounds for earthquake in Mexico City. 21:00 March 19 2021
March 19 2021, 9 pm and we'd just finished dinner. Miss CDMX was pouring a beer. And the alarm sounded.

I am in Roma district of Mexico City, CDMX Mexico. Only a few days ago we had talked about the 2017 and 1985 earthquake.

And she told me about how the alarm can go off in the middle of the night. You pull on your pants, grab the keys, pick up the dog and get out of the building. They reckon you have 40 seconds.

Gladly she lives on the 1st floor. On Sunday we passed a 35 story apartment block. Guess you can't use the elevator in the event of an earthquake.

This is quite a normal thing for citizens of Mexico. For me, hmmm, I just thought the alarm was just another ambulance or cop car speeding up the street. Thankfully, Miss CDMX is a bit more switched on than me.

Grabbed my keys, phone, mask and my money belt with credit cards and passport and followed her out the door into the central reservation of Alvaro Obregon.

Details of the quake:

So it turned out to be a long way from here. Off the coast, not far from Acapulco. But you never know just when the epicenter is gonna be under your ass.

These travels, 105 days lockdown in Kenya. 2 week quarantine in Skopje having shared a dorm room with a Covid +ve and a fire in my hotel in Sanliurfa in Turkey. And now earthquake alarms. Quite the adventure.
