This super cheap option on how to get to the Antananarivo Ivato International Airport, Madagascar, is probably only suitable for die-hard backpackers travelling with a backpack that won't cause an inconvenience to other passengers and that you can happily balance on your lap for more than an hour.

6 weeks ago, I rode the Taxi-Brousse from Ivato to Tala where I spent the night before taking another, 2 days later into Tana itself.

Jump in. Be prepared to get squashed, space is very tight. Not the ideal option for those who travel with the kitchen sink. And probably only suitable for die-hard backpackers. Of course, it's super cheap, but it's not always about the money. I don't know any other way.

The trip takes an hour. Yes, the traffic is horrendous! I rode it to the last stop which is just a hundred metres from the Manoir Rouge Hotel which makes a great option if you have a night flight, as I was.
