Non-Sponsored Review of the Casa Rosada in Livingston, Guatemala
I'm doing a good job at finding cute places to stay these days and at a price suitable for the low budget traveller backpacker.
Having found the Casa Rosada on GoogleMaps (continuing to avoid the booking sites as they are no longer giving the best deals) I sent them a message via WhatsApp (+502 5414 5407) and secured a bed in a dorm room for 1 week. 450Q for a 7-night stay!
Yes, I know. It's Covid and have been avoiding dorms since October last year. But I calculated the risk.
It's the hot and wet season and the pandemic and it's a long trek out here, all meaning that the place wouldn't be full and having seen the pictures online, the dorm was bright and very breezy aka well ventilated.
And on arrival, the boss gave me an upgrade as I'd be staying a week. A little hidey-hole of a room off of the main dorm.

They have a great menu. I treated myself to the Topado, traditional dish of the Garifuna here in Livingston:

I got here from Puerto Barrios, by boat.
The boat arrives in the centre of town, just over a 5-minute walk from the Casa Rosada. Easy.
They can help you getting to Playa Blanca and Siete Altares though I didn't go there. You can rent Kayaks and they have jet skis.

Livingston is a fishing town and is located at the mouth of the Rio Dulce.
The hostel has their own jetty where the daily boat to and from the town of Rio Dulce stops. There is a little cabana with a few hammocks strung up. The perfect place to lounge on the sultry days.
