Backpacking in Zambia: Top 7 Things to see and do in Livingstone
Posted: October 2 2023 | Tagged: Zambia
My 2023 African Safari, in which I travelled overland from Nairobi to Katima Mulilo in Namibia was drawing to a close and during my 10-day stay at Fawlty Towers, I checked out these Top 7 things to do in Livingstone. Of course there are many many other activities to keep you occupied whilst in Livingstone but they will empty your wallet pretty sharpish.
1. Walking With White Rhinos
This was a great experience; hiking through the Africa bush on a guided walk to see White Rhinos that aren't even white, though we couldn't get as close as I would have liked, it was still a great safari.
2. Visting Victoria Falls
Having visited Victoria Falls from Zimbabwe in the rainy season some years previously, I was curious how Mosi Oa Tunya would be on the Zambian side and in the dry season. They didn't dissappoint!!
3. Take a sunset beer overlooking the Zambezi
On a tip off from a girl in Lusaka, with some other travellers I went to the Victoria Falls to drink a beer at the plush Hotel Livingstone Royale. The service was slow, the beer expensive and not cold enough but the sunset over the Zambezi, was epic
4. Fake Border Crossing Zambia to Zimbabwe
If you have your passport with you, you can cross the Victoria Falls Bridge to the halfway point for awesome views of the Zambezi River and if you are lucky, watch Adventure Seekers throw themselves of the bridge.
5. Visting the Livingstone Museum
Don't expect too much. But there is a great expo on David Livingstone at The Livingstone Museum.
6. Forest of Faces Sculpture Park
This is quite interesting to see. It's right in town and is free to visit.
7. Visiting the Livingstone Railway Museum
It's a bit expensive at 15 USD for non-residents but I used my Nomadic Backpacker business card to get a discount on the promise of promoting the museum and Livingstone. If you are a railway enthusiast, it's well worth a visit!!
