From Istanbul to Ankara on the YHT Yüksek Hızlı Tren (High Speed Train)
Last time I took the bus from Istanbul to Ankara. This time, November 2020 I took the train. At the station in Söğütlüçeşme, there is no timetable posted and the level of English was low but have since found the full schedule. Trains depart at 09:00, 10:00, 16:00 and 17:30. Journey time is 4 hrs 40. Ekonomi is 85.50 TL, business class, 125TL.
Söğütlüçeşme YHT station is the most convenient:
Ankara YHT garı is pretty close to the centre. There are 2 Metro stations close by too.
Naturally I took the Economy seat:
A pretty slick set-up if you ask me:
No one sat together. This rule was enforced! One knob who thought the rule didn't apply to him was quickly asked to move to his allotted seat. Masks to be worn at all times!
You will need your passport to buy a ticket. Check-in opens 30 minutes before departure. Your bags will be scanned. I had to give up my veggie knife. Boarding is done using your passport. I had to give my email address in the absence of a local sim when buying the ticket too as they need a way to contact you. Fucking Coronavirus!
