Backpacking in El Salvador: La Libertad Day Trip
La Libertad is a fishing port town an hour from San Salvador on the chicken bus. Can't resist the tempatation to go and explore some new place.
There are no boats moored up on the beach. They have quite an ingenious modus operandi here.
They winch the boats up onto the jetty.
The boats go out at night and return in the morning. Having arrived 'late', I was lucky to see, most of one last operation:

Tourists don't stay here in La Libertad. They head to the beaches further up the coast.
Tourists have no interest in port towns. They want activities, beaches, beautiful places.
Travellers like me, it seems are a rare breed, just looking for something different. Even just a port town.
I eat a fish lunch at the appropriately named Comedor La Libertad:

I walked west out of town a little, found a strip of make-shift bars and ordered a beer.
It was a happy day!

How to get from San Salvador to La Libertad by Chicken Bus
I took the #102 from the SE corner of Parque Cuscatlán on 25 Avenida Sur.
Journey time was 65 minutes, the fare was 59 cents. Traffic can be bad getting out of town.

Arrival point is the main terminal west of town but jump out opposite the pier, where everyone gets off.
Coming back just take the same bus across the road, nearest the sea.
Just as a reminder, you can see a complete list of all my posts from this wonderful country on my El Salvador Index Page.
