I made the decision to restart my attempt at blogging The big question is why?
I believe I have something to offer. I remember the feeling when I got emails out of the blue thanking me for the post about 'how to get from Karakol to Almaty by public transport' on my now defunct 'white monkey travels' blog and when scrolling through Google Analytics as to see who was hitting me up and from where and finding a few travellers had linked me from their site. That means I do have something to offer. I take the journey and write about it. I go round collecting information on the ground, not 'faking it', ie putting together a post from someone else's out of date and therefore obsolete and possible 'fake' post. These fakers are marketeers jumping on the travel band wagon. It's April 2019. I'm in England. Holding down a steady job, because it puts money back into my account which after my last trip, 1423 days on the road, was very much depleted. I had run out of ideas. I was down to my last £300. I booked a flight home. After the ticket had been paid for and the journey from Heathrow into Central London and a suburban train north, I had just £20 remaining. My account has recovered. But it's still not where I would like it to be. I am dreaming of travel, daily. I need a bit more time before I am ready, mind, body and soul. I created this new blog, from the ground up. All the mistakes I made on 'white monkey travels' have been taken into account. I am good with SEO. Posts will mostly be about the logistics surrounding the world of a backpacker. How to get from A to B via such and such town, or How to get a visa for Mali in Dakar for example. I enjoy looking up locations on Google maps, getting out on the ground and making sure embassies are still where they used to be and that trains are actually running and borders haven't been closed. Occasionally, I will write posts about 'What I did when I was in XXX, XXX being some back of beyond village or it could equally be about Lisbon in Portugal, which is where I was the other week. And yes I wrote about it: One Week In Lisbon | Portugal. This blog is now live. It's very much a work in progress. It's been submitted to Google but it takes a long time and with so few pages, even longer. But I will be back on the road soon and I'll be posting. I've got a short trip lined up in about 6 weeks time and have about 6 posts in mind. So stay tuned and thanks for stopping by. You can send me a message using DISQUS, at the bottom on this page. You do NOT have to subscribe, you can leave a guest post. ALL messages will be moderated before they appear on my site. I have the idea of writing Hostel Reviews. At present, there are no freebies. Will there ever be? I have money but it is not enough to travel indefinitely. What I would love and I know it is a very big ask, is to be able to get a tiny income that would cover about 1/2 of my daily expenses and that, with the money I have saved, will allow me to keep on going. |
